Ali Khan and Nino Kipiani have loved each other since childhood.  At the beginning of the twentieth century their home is a bustling community of diverse ethnicities and cultures, but Ali is a Muslim, with his warrior ancestors' passion for the desert, and Nino is a Christian Georgian girl with sophisticated European ways, and this star-crossed couple face insurmountable challenges to be together. When the First World War breaks out, local oil becomes the focus of a massive territorial power struggle and as epic battles rage around them, Ali and Nino find themselves swept up in their country’s fight for independence amidst their own crusade to be together.
